Y2KBUG

There are less than 100 days left until the Y2K bug strikes! Is the world going to end? Some people think it is and some people think it’s not. Since there are so many opinions we decided to let the people in our group say what they thought of Y2K. Brian says, “I think that the power is going out for a few weeks and some people will freak out.” Dustin thinks, “It’s going to be like any other day.” Toscha says, “Like Dustin I also say nothing will happen.”  Andy thinks , “ Something will happen but it won’t be very serious.”
Anything with a computer chip is affected, like a telephone, VCR and computers. The government plans to spend 220 million dollars on fixing the computers. The reason the government doesn’t have all the computers fixed is because the computer systems are so large. Only 37 percent of the 911 emergency systems are fixed! Some people who we know are really preparing for Y2K. They have a generator, tons of food, water and a huge gas tank in the backyard so they are pretty prepared. Really, all that is needed is some water and food that can last about a week. Many airplane companies are canceling flights on New Year’s Eve. There is a person who is challenging the Y2K bug by flying on New Year’s Eve until January 1. The reason why people are afraid of Y2K is because computers control bombs and other destructive weapons, so when January 1 comes around, the weapons might go off. Although people may hear some scary things about Y2K they may not be true, so don’t get scared whenever  something new about Y2K is heard .  Good luck!
