Never Underestimate A Drunk Driver

By Marsha Sorenson, Daelyn Armbrust, Sam Sullivan, and Lindsey Goss

This was based on a true story that happened in Peoria, Illinois.

One day my aunt died and we had to go to her funeral. It was really sad for all of us and we were crying as we got in the car. All six people in my family were in our mini van. My little brother Adam, my brother Nick, and my sister Kim were in the back. Adam is only one so Nick and Kim had to watch him. My dad, mom, and I were in the front seat.
We have been driving for about an hour along country roads, we were almost home, then all of a sudden, and a car ran into us.  I was in shock. It took me awhile to realize what had happened. By then our car was half off the road. My dad was already out of the car, and was trying to get the rest of us out, because the car was leaking gas. My mom got out with ease, but I had trouble because my arm was broken.  Kim only suffered minor injuries.
My little baby brother, Adam, and Nick were in critical condition. There was blood all over the back seat, and we figured out that they were the only two that were not wearing their seat belts. Adam's had a broken shin, broken arm, and got a whiplash. You could see Nick's rib because it was sticking out, not because he's skinny.  My Dad happened to notice that the other car was partly crashed into a house.  The house was the only one around.
The people in the house, called 911, and took all of us to the emergency room, even the guy in the other car who turned out better than all of us.  We were all ok except Adam and Nick.  They had to stay in the emergency room for three days.
The drunk driver Jason was pressed with several different charges,  including drunk driving.  They found out he was a criminal from Texas heading North.  They found drugs in the back seat and that he killed many children because of drinking and driving.
Always wear your seat belt whenever you are in the car. Even if you do get in an accident it won't be nearly as bad with a seat belt on.
Never drink and drive. Drunk driving takes lives and your car. And that's why you should never underestimate a drunk driver.
