John Rocker, a prized relief pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, is being put under psychiatric tests to decide whether to punish the pitcher for his disparaging comments against homosexuals, minorities, and immigrants at a recent press conference.
           What People Think

Katie McArdle:
I think that John Rocker shouldn’t have been sent for psychiatric testing. Even though his comments were rude and offensive, he still has a right to free speech. The Atlanta Braves could also be doing this for attention. I don’t think Rocker should have to go to the psychiatric center if he doesn’t want to.

JAmanda Smith:
John Rocker is very mean and rude for what he did but he has the right to say what ever he wants to anyone no matter if he is a Major League baseball player or not. John Rocker still has the right to free speech. I think that he shouldn't have to go to the psychiatric testing center if he does not want to. He is just a loser i have decided.

Kelson Hughes:
I believe that Atlanta is trying to avoid having to kick Rocker off the team. They will put him under psychiatric treatment. Then, he can come out and say, “I am cured”, apologize and let the whole incident blow over. Is psychiatric treatment what he needs? After his comments, he said he was not a racist, but how could he not be? I think the man needs a wake-up call on how social society works and how he should fit in!

Brandon Matejewski:

Should Rocker really go to the psychological center? The Atlanta Braves’ relief pitcher, John Rocker, criticized blacks, homosexuals, and the homeless. He may have the freedom of speech, but he shouldn’t have said it. As a person straight up, I think he should have kept his thoughts to himself. But why should he be sent to a psychological center for speaking out? Why couldn’t they just suspend him!           Back to Edison home page
