It all began in the year of 1953.  Edison School was erected on a cornfield that our Coach Norman’s grandfather used to farm on.
The school day started on a regular basis promptly at 8:15A.M. There were eight classes in the day instead of five.  Then school ended at 3:30 P.M.  For lunch, the students had a choice of either going home for an hour or staying at school and eating in the cafeteria.  Back then the meals were home-cooked right at the school.  The cook’s name was Mrs. Maddalozza and the students really enjoyed her spaghetti and ravioli.  During study hall, the students were allowed to go anywhere in the building to help out; sort of like a job, only at school.  Out current learning center teacher, Mrs. Norman, was the library helper.  She helped Mrs. Waddell, the librarian.
All of the extra-curricular activities included: Glee Club, boys’ track, boys’ basketball (heavyweight and lightweight), Spanish Club, Pep Club, Student Council, Library Assistance, and Cheerleading.  At the time, there were only six cheerleaders on the squad and there weren’t any pom-pon girls.
Girls and boys were separated in exploratory.  In PE., which they had every day, they played a few games, and were on different sides of the wooden gym.  Afterwards, they had to take showers in the shower room.  Our Industrial Tech was called “shop,” and it was for boys only.  The girls took Home Economic, which consisted of two classes: sewing and cooking.

Opinions
"Edison school is a wonderful facility! It gives all students infinite chances to broaden their horizons, and learn more about their own personal interests and talents.  Although I sometimes dislike some of the work that we do, I know in the end, it will be for the best.
The teachers at E.J.H.S. are superb.  They are not old fashioned.  In fact, some of them even have a good sense of humor.  There are some things that could be improved though.  The lunch system is hardly as good as it used to be.  Mrs. Madalozza used to make homemade lunches for the kids.  Other than having homemade lunches, Edison couldn’t be much better than it already is.”

“I think Edison is a great school because there are so many fun activities and you learn a lot.  You can also make a lot of  new friends.”

“The teachers are very thoughtful and they care.  They make learning fun and exciting.  Every day we learn something new.  The textbooks are easy to understand and we do a lot of work out of them.  I can’t wait to get to high school.  I really want to learn more.
There are so many activities that you can participate in.  I’m really busy with things during and after school such as student council, choir, band, jazz band, and Scholastic Bowl.  I love to come to school!”

“In most of my classes, we move along at a fast pace.  I enjoy the extra-curricular activities I am in: orchestra, DI, and choir.  One aspect of junior high I enjoy is switching classes.”

“Edison Junior High School is one of the best in the U.S.  I will remember going to Edison and will cherish it for the rest of my life.”
