Junior High Students Eat More Than Junk Food

           A survey was completed at Edison Jr. High on student’s favorite foods. Students had ten choices to choose from. The food choices were pizza, tacos/burritos, cheeseburgers, eggs, spaghetti/lasagna, nachos, fish, pot roast, chicken, and salad. We surveyed 80 kids in our seventh grade classes. The food we found to be most popular was pizza with 31% of the students. We asked a student, Tennia Conkling, why she likes pizza. She said, “Because it’s yummy.” We also asked Rachel Spires, another student who liked pizza, where she eats pizza. She answered, “I eat it at home.”
           The least favorite food turned out to be eggs with only one percent of the votes. Cheeseburgers and salad, both with only 3% of the votes turned out to be the second least favorite foods. Ashley Hale, a student who voted for salad, responded “I eat salad at home and at restaurants. “Another student, Mark McClary, who likes to eat cheeseburgers, remarks he likes cheeseburgers because, “ They taste good.’’ The rest of the food percentages were:

Nachos-29%
Tacos/Burritos-11%
Pot Roast-9%

Chicken-6%
Fish-4%
Spaghetti/Lasagna-4%

We had to admit that the results of the survey were a little surprising. Though there was no junk food on the survey, everyone found something that they liked. In fact, rather than junk food, most of the food was healthy. The eating habits of Edison Jr. High students are not as bad as most people might think.
