In the next few years, the City Council plans to add many things to Pekin, IL. Included in this plan are a lighthouse, sports hall of fame, outdoor amphitheater, and much more. They would be added in three main areas: the riverfront, downtown, and James Field areas will all be upgraded. Some parts of Broadway road will be eliminated to make space for these new editions. Developer Tom Tincher says that the city plans on spending $46,800 on these projects. There will also be a new county jail, new police department, and a new city hall. Already, a new bike path has been added to the town. Below are some of our opinions about this project.

“I think that we should have an indoor basketball court. I can’t wait to try out the new skate park. I think they should do more with Pekin. Also, I don’t get why they’re building a lighthouse. If we could save money we could give some of it to the poor people.”  -GJ

“In my opinion a lighthouse on our riverfront is not a bad idea, but I think we should put funding into things Pekin has been promising for years for instance, a new police station. An amphitheater would be great. Pekin has plenty to do, but it all costs too much money. Maybe Pekin should not charge very much to get into the Skate Park or the amphitheater.” -EM

“I think that all of these improvements to the town will be really cool. I like everything that the City Council is planning on developing, but I have some things that I think they should add to it. It would be nice if they made a Children’s Museum and a huge building just for laser tag. If they added these to their list of improvements it would be perfect.”  -CE

“I think that these new plans will really improve Pekin. The skate park will be awesome. Although these things are being done I still think there is too much for the city to do. One of these many things would be getting some new stores in the Pekin Mall or just getting a new one. Other than these things I think Pekin is becoming a better place.”  -MH

“I think it will be neat to have a lighthouse in Pekin. The amphitheater will be cool, too. I’m worried, though, that we won’t have enough money to complete the project. The town could vote on which new place to build first, then figure out how to spend the rest of the money. Also, I like the new bike path. I feel that this is a great idea and I can’t wait to watch the town grow.” -RG
