The Battle of Gettysburg
1st Day July 1, 1863
The fight at Gettysburg was so unexcepted and so unplaned.  When a Rebel officer saw a sign for shoes near Gettysburg, they started for the town. The two brigades of A. P. Hill's Corps, and Heer Ridge met 1 1/2 miles out of town..  There was not much left in Gettysburg, when they got there.  When pepole in Gettysburg heard there were soliders near the town they took everything they had and they left.  A small boy who favered soldiers, climbed his roof to watch what would happen if there would be a fight or not.  When the soldiers from both sides came he noticed that many had rags for clothes and some had shoes, but some had not shoes at all.  Almost everyone in Gettysburg wanted the Union to win the war, because they lived in the north.  The fire works started three days to soon and ended one day before they were to start or before the Fourth of July. The fighting went on and both sides refused to let down.  Finally the the Union troops were driven through the town and onto Cementery Ridge.   The Rebles won the first day of battle.   General Buford sent a messege to Meade the messege said  "Get the some more solider's here at once".
