7A Scott Altman Day

September 8, 2000

On September 8th, hometown hero and former Edison student, Scott Altman
piloted the Space Shuttle Atlantis to a rendezvous with the
International Space Station.  Team 7A honored Altman with a Scott Altman Day.
We watched the launch as a team after school started and then viewed the
movie October Sky.  In the afternoon, the team broke into groups and spent the afternoon
on a Technology and Learning with Computers (TLC) activity.  Students were split into
groups and they rotated to five different stations.  These stations were:

  1. Simulating a Space Shuttle Launch on the NASA Website
  2. Making a model of the shuttle using construction paper, markers, and scissors
  3. Calculating your weight on the different planets in the Solar System
  4. Answering questions about the STS-106 mission using the NASA Website
  5. Authoring a PowerPoint about the movie October Sky
The pictures below are samples of our students working in each station!
