Improvement Goal 1

Improvement Focus/Goal Statement
To improve students’ reading comprehension by increasing performance in summarizing and finding the main idea.
Rationale of Need
The five year trend for reading performance among all demographic groups in our schools is stable and not improving. The Target for improvement is as follows:70% of all students will meet standards on ISAT. Each of the following demographic groups will show an increase of at least 10% in meeting standards on ISAT (5th grade only this year). The breakdown includes 70% of females and 70% of males. 50% of all the low income population and 50% of the students with IEPs will meet state standards.

Improvement Focus/Goal Statement
Standardize a formative assessment strategy for reading.
Rationale of Need
Through the use of frequent and consistent school-wide formative assessment practices we be able to more clearly define the areas of opportunity related to the targeted areas of summarizing and finding the main idea. The Target for improvement is as follows:70% of all students will meet standards on ISAT. Each of the following demographic groups will show an increase of at least 10% in meeting standards on ISAT (5th grade only this year). The breakdown includes 70% of females and 70% of males. 50% of all the low income population and 50% of the students with IEPs will meet state standards.

Improvement Focus/Goal Statement
Students will be better organized, add more support and details, and become fluent writers.
Rationale of Need
The overall performance of the school is showing gradual improvement as interpreted through ISAT trend data. The Target for improvement is as follows:Each demographic group will show an increase of at least 10% in meeting or exceeding on the ISAT: 59% of students with IEPs; 87% of female students; 77% of male students; and 75% of low income students.
