Evidence / Knowledge of Results (What did we
learn?)
Recommendations (What do we need to do differently?)
- The Jefferson Rubric does not reward creativity and doesnt
address the 3 styles of writing.
- Narrative needs a separate rubric from expository and persuasive.
- The data showed improvement over time in all areas, yet support
and organization are still the weakest areas.
- Styles of writing must be consistent across grade level for
data gathering purposes to improve reliability.
- We need more instruction, modeling and practice in the revising
and editing process.
- We will provide instruction in the revision process.
- The choice of prompt impacts the data. It is difficult to interpret
the data if teachers collect data on a different style of writing
(narrative, persuasive, expository).
- We will collect data on the same style of writing. However,
each teacher will select their own prompt.
- We question the balance between data collection and instruction.
- We will do one data gathering assessment in writing each month
- We question the students attitudes about writing. We did
not collect any data on how students FELT about writing.
- We want to keep the enjoyment of writing an area that we monitor.
