First Grade Reading Performance
|
| Three first grade
teachers and a Reading recovery teacher decided to track performance
of students in four areas of reading. Their assessments coincided
with the district SAI cycles in the fall winter and spring. Teachers
involved in the project were Pam
Wallinger, Tiffany Cascia,
Debi Grossweiler and
Myra Branch. We learned a number of interesting things from the
project. · Student performance in reading levels was higher on
average than in years past by at least 3 levels · Instruction
was targeted to specific students on specific needs based on the
assessments · Performance on the dictation assessment capped out
at about 35 and further assessments were uninformative. This project
provided us with baseline data we can use to monitor student achievement
in future years. We want to continue to monitor student performance
in reading to see if results are consistent across years · Second
and third grade teachers would like to develop a tool to assess
performance which informs instruction equally as well results
of the assessment are below. |
