as measured by ISAT and CARS

12 comprehension strategies

Measuring Instrument:

Comprehensive Assessment of Reading Strategies (CARS)

Method of Test:

Determine level based on fluency
Administer Cars 5 times prior to Jan. SIP and 5 times between Jan. SIP and June 1 (calendar will be developed)
Introduce test based on agreed upon ground rules
Within 24 hours of test. Teacher must review results and teach comprehension and test-taking strategies
Enter data into CARS software
After5 data points, enter scores into spreadsheet
Individual students can be exempted from CARS if an alternative intervention plan is submitted and approved by principal

Decision Criteria:

Less than 3/5 correct answers in each strategy: does not meet
