Planning for Continuous Improvement

Background Information

School/Program Improvement Issue: Reduce achievement gap between high and low achieving students.

Area of Opportunity (brief narrative summary of why the team/school chose this issue):

Last year we collected fluency data throughout the year on a monthly basis. Some students improved; some stayed the same. Due to the inconsistency of the data collection we were unable to arrive at any conclusions about how to improve fluency for our struggling readers—especially those whom we were assessing fluency below grade level.

Reason for Selection (list of both formal and informal data sources):

  • Fluency data from 2003
  • "Put Reading First"
  • District SAI fluency scores.
  • Staff input from June SIP day
