| Status of the FY97 Budget | LC2000 partners submitted a total of $155,700 in amendments to the budget of the first year's federal funds. As this exceeds 10% of the $900,000+ grant, it is necessary to submit a budget amendment to the U.S. Department of Education. The project director has submitted an amendment request and has received verbal confirmation that the amendments are acceptable. The director will notify LC2000 partners as soon as written approval is received. |
| Status of the Task Forces | The efforts of the LC2000 are comprised of 5 task areas:
1) defining the learning community concept, 2) identifying technological
skills needed in a learning community, 3) providing training for all members
of the community, 4) providing the necessary infrastructure, and 5) create
a curriculum to promote strong, participatory citizenship.
The work in each area will be addressed by a task force comprised of representatives from the LC2000 partners and community volunteers. The task forces will identify issues, investigate them, develop and pilot solutions, and do the work necessary to implement recommendations. |
