Guy Cahill
  1. Local ISP Proposal
  2. Civic-NET
  • The local ISP has withdrawn its proposal submitted at last month’s meeting. It will participate in the Training Task Force to look for long-term relationship. District 108 is talking with local ISPs about making computer labs available for local ISPs use in training its clients.
  • CivicNET is an intergovernmental compact of Tazewell school districts to support the fiber optic ATM network for all their schools. Nearly all districts have committed to the project. The contracts will be finalized by November 1. The project must then be submitted for funding by the Universal Service Fund.
  • Local Colleges are seriously considering joining the compact
Brian Abeling Public Access
  • The main issue the subcommittee has considered is: "What is a public access site?" There are three possibilities

Big lab located centrally: Not in our near future because of cost

Small labs: e.g., exist as the neighborhood schools, may add others

Dial up: Proposed contract distributed by Brian.

  • Subcommittee is asking for feedback by e-mail or by returning the contract to Brian. Address these questions:

Year-to-year contract

Timeline: when do we start.

What if organization supplies its own computer?

How might we deal with volunteer incentives?

  • Partners need to give Brian permission to access their logo for use on the contract.
Pat Sidley LC2000 Organization
  • Organization subcommittee has found some sample organizational structures and will meet in two weeks to create a proposal. The proposal will likely include a corporate structure with employed staff to sustain the organization.
Chuck Bowen Partner Issues
  • Agenda: current procedures seem to be working satisfactorily.
  • Bill Fleming still can’t use his MS Explorer e-mail
  • Denny Keif expressed thanks for the quality of Lisa Applegate’s work in writing the Evaluation of the City of Pekin network. Her recommendations included the possibility of partners collaborating to hire technicians and/or network administrator. E-mail Pat with ideas; he is now searching for an employee.
  • Dirksen Center needs CongressLink to be higher on the JobQ. CongressLink must be on our server by May 30, 1998. Issues include: ICHAT vs. LotusNotes, ICHAT’s firewall problems, rewriting the links in the CongressLink site.
  • Public Access would like the results from the public survey conducted during Marigold Festival. Brian will get them from John and bring them to the next meeting of the Public Access committee.
