Project Evaluation Chuck explained the LC2000 evaluation strategy with a handout outlining the three contractors, their focus, and the evaluative elements and functional benefits of each. They include Saul Rockman, national consultant, to evaluate the change process, NCSA at UIUC to evaluate the technology implementation, and Lawrence McBride, ISU, to evaluate the civics discourse instruction. He answered questions from the group and shared the proposal submitted by ROCKMAN ET AL . The two others have not yet submitted proposals.
Task Force Reports
  • Skills/Training: will join forces this month. Two site visits in Indiana planned for April. Looking for a community training model for technology skills acqusition.
  • Infrastructure: Lisa Applegate will be attending IBM training during the first week in April. Short discussion of the video distribution concept.
  • Learning Community: site visits completed by Mar. 21. Groups to present their findings on Mar. 25. Issues identified and publication of an action plan in May.
  • Civics: committee met and reexamined their charge and resources available. They are investigating a site visit, possibly to the Truman Library.
Partner Concerns The library is very close to being online. The hospital has a defective router. The city still has a training issue. Dist. 303 is online successfully.
  • Jobs in the Queue & Technical Support: input is needed for committee to develop a rubric for prioritizing. M. Dukes & L. Postelwait expressed interest. List will be updated weekly if possible. Procedures for requesting technical support outlined. One day/week for partner service from technicians available.
  • LC2000 Training Support: Needs assessment & contact person information to B. Abeling by Mar. 27. Classes scheduled for April & May as needed. Will channel into Training task force.
Impending Issues
  • Special Project Directors' Meeting: May 21-24 in Washington, DC. Chuck & Saul Rockman to attend.
  • Finalizing Evaluation Package: will get help from Rockman to write request for additional funds.
  • Year-One Report/Year-Two Budget Process: Chuck will have more info. after the project directors' meeting in May. Will need volunteers to assess how we have so far met our goals, dealt with issues, and what we want to accomplish next. Will discuss at next meeting on APRIL 16.
Other:
  • Chuck will continue mailings and phone calls for communication until everyone is online.
  • Send Chuck proposed agenda items for next meeting.
  • L. Postelwait suggested keeping a list of who has visited the district to see the GC2000/LC2000 projects.
  • Task forces will accept new members and configure/train for e-mail & Internet access.
