GC2000 Planning Partnership formed
- 4th Qrt 1994 BOE authorizes upgrade in MIS
within context of GC2000; District submits $1M grant application to ISBE
- 1st Qrt 1995 ISBE awards District $200K f/
training Grant
- 2nd Qrt 1995 District revises GC2000; Partnership
expands to include Community Resources; Partners re-affirm support and
submits unsuccessful grant to NTIA
- 3rd Qrt 1995 District Budgets one-time only
$'s f/ capital improvements; IE&CI Committee convened
- 4th Qrt 1995 IE&CI make recommendations;
BOE authorizes $1.3M for GC2000; $1.3M for other Building renovations over
5-years
- 1st Qrt 1996 GC2000 purchases begin; US DofE
announces Tech Challenge Grant: to use information superhighway and powerful
new technologies to improve education and enhance economic competitiveness
- 2nd Qrt 1996 GC2000 installation begins; Partners
re-affrim commitment and over $600K in $'s and resources; Partners agree
to write and submit grant to US DofE; IBM selects District for Video Beta
project
- 3rd Qrt 1996 Pilot Teachers begin training
in anticipation of GC2000 start-up
- 4th Qrt 1996 US DofE awards District and Partnership
$3.5M Technology Challenge Grant for Learning Community 2000; Partners
agree to expand participation; LC2000, announce formation of Task Forces:
Learn Comm., Tech Skills, Training, Infrastructure; Civics Curriculum
- 1st Qrt 1997 LC2000 Infrastructure Task Force

OVERALL PURPOSE
Complete, extend, make universal and sustaining a 21st
century network infrastructure which supports multiple, high bandwidth
applications
PURPOSE for TODAY
- Meet/know fellow task force members
- Familiarize participants with LC2000 Grant award: Goals
and objectives; Activities
- Familiarize participants with purpose of Infrastructure
Task Force in Context of LC2000 Grant Objectives and Activities, with other
Task Forces and Oversight Committee and original GC2000 project
- Identify questions/issues to be addressed
- Familiarize self with existing conditions
- Set future direction
NON-PURPOSE
- To envision less than LC2000 grant award, RE:
applications
- To envision use of yesterday's technology only
- To make accessible to only select few
- To require on-going tax support
