Birth to Five Year Old Screening

Preschool Screening was held April 5-8. Parents
and their children participated in the process in hopes that they
would be able to start classes in the fall.

|
Screening is "fun and games"
with BIG TIME results!

Mrs. Janssen awaits a response
from a direction given during the Chicago Early Screening Assessment.
This "little guy" is
REALLY thinking about what to do.

Mrs. Heilman encourages children
to name objects as she listens for speech and language skills.
|
|
|
Parents with children birth to three may also
have their child screened. Every child is unique-growing and developing
in different ways. Most of the time, differences between children
of the same age is nothing to worry about. For 1 child in 10,
however, the difference could be related to a delay or disability.
Should an area of need be identified,
the family is referred for additional evaluation services at no
cost.

Infant/Toddler Fun!
The Infant/Toddler classes at the Center are designed
to support parents who are enrolled in the Adult Education/GED
classes. While the adult students are working on academic and
job skills, their children are enjoying many opportunities from
which to grow and learn.
|

Nutritional snacks, the topic of interest during
this PACT, was enjoyed by all!
|
The parents and children enjoy PACT (Parent and
Child Time) during classtime 3 days each week for 45 minutes.
Parenting and child development skillls are focused on during
this time.Topics of interest are addressed.

|
First grade students from C.B.
Smith School visited the Center recently to perform their "play
debuts" for the preschool classes.
What positive role models!
|
|

|
The preschoolers listened intently
to the stories and watched as the characters "came to life"
right before their eyes!
Someday, it will be their turn
to provide the performance.

The Love of Learning Through Literacy!
|
Ms. Brian's Preschool Class Reptile
Show
|

The Brown family shared their "household
pets" with several of the classes at the Preschool Center
recently.
They are very proud of their collection!
|

Meet "Pacman" the orange
spotted frog...
RRRRR-IBIT!
The children assembled in the Family
Literacy Center to see the animals "up close" and to
learn some interesting facts about them.
|
|

The children were fascinated by Mr. Brown's favorite
pet...
"Red"- the red tailed
boa constrictor!
|
"Happy", the leopard
gecko brought "oohs and aahs" from the group. We're
convinced "Happy" was probably thinking the same about
the child's frog hat!
|
|

"Well, if Ms. Brian touches the snake,
it must be ok," thought the children.
"Wow, it's soft!"
|

The savannah monitor named "Arthur"
was one of the children's favorites because he made funny noises
if they were really quiet and he moved very fast!
|
|
What better way to teach children
about the world around them
than through that which they
already recognize!
