3. What suggestions fo you have to improve your child's school?
None at this time.
pay closer attention to kids on playground and at recess
larger class rooms
P T A what a bunch of people who do not want out siders
n/a
less days off of school
The cafeteria experience is poor for my child. It needs to be quieter, more pleasant eating environment.
Discretion between legal guardians and parents when school papers and information are given.
none
I would like more updating about her progress than just a couple of parent/ teacher conferences. Maybe monthly notes,ect...
More parent interaction in the classrooms.
more availability for before and after school day care
more outdoor equipment for the children
More supervision on playground
More suggestions of what parents can do to help their children at home to improve their learning capabilities.
Get a teacher that can handle troubled students
I feel that there are some things that the teacher's need the children to learn is a little hard for a 2nd grader to learn.
To enable the teachers more learning experience
I have no suggestions at this time.
Introduce the students to computers at an early stage.
none
A greater emphasis on respecting others, being kind to other children. I am very concerned about violence in schools, not Jefferson, but at the higher levels.
more dispeslen
Better playground supervision preferably by teachers instead of Aramark.
Just a little more time when sending home information sheets regarding activities at school.
Increase the frequency of the newsletter and information that you supply to the parents. Increase the notification of the developmental progress of the students to the parents, not necessarily by grading, but by meets expectations, exceeds expectations, below expectations type of a scale. I would like to know if my child is in the top reading group or if she is struggling. I really can not tell that by the i can do it evaluations. I enjoy these evaluations because the children have to take full responsibility for their education and they know exactly where they are at with their own education, but as far as a parent gaining full knowledge of what my child is capable of, there could be some improvement.
gifted or accelerated programs at younger ages to challenge gifted students
I do not agree with the joint grade classroom and it's purpose. I would like the teacher to provide more information instead of trying to teach responsibility to a six year old. More information on how to assist child with needs due to special needs. Allowing it to be the parents choice (which knows their child) to make decision on joint grade classroom.
none at this time
more fieldtrips that are heathly for the childern
I have concerns regarding the lunchroom and lunch recess. I do not feel like the supervision is adequate for a primary school. Some of the workers are loud, rude and not respectful to the students. Of the times I have eaten lunch with my daughter - the kids were yelled at for talking, for not eating their lunches in the time allowed. The time needs to be increased.
None
Desks in classrooms for 1st grade and up. Crossing guards remaining before and after school an extra 10 minutes. Better lunchroom food.
A better explanation of how the report cards or non report cards work.
better lunches
DEFINATELY need to improve the number of playground personel, my child gets hurt ALOT
I think they should have parents volunteer on a scheduled basis to do lunch duties and playground duties.
I don't think the combined classes are a good idea. Children who are quiet and less aggressive are left out. If this happens then the child misses out on things for two years being in a combined class. Each child should have an individual desk to set at and not tables.
More personel on the playgrounds to watch for recess
i have none.
More playground equipment desperately needed. The playground needs swings and more slides, more age appropiate equipment is needed. Especially since we've spent 4 years selling fundraisers to put in one piece of equipment that is geared towards older children only. We've spent the last four years selling junk to raise the funds for this one piece of equipment that my child will only get to use for one year. Also better fundraisers are needed. The school needs to sell things that are actually useable for the price they charge. Also better lunch menu selection instead of the same stuff over and over and over.
None
I believe that there should be more curriculum activities scheduled for afterschool hours, things that the children can do to broaden their learning.
I think that there should be more opportunities for working parents to be involved in thier childs school and to make access to the teachers easier for them also. such as teacher e-mail or such.
I am really very happy with my child's school. When we first started coming here about 8 years ago, I had my doubts, but now I wouldn't want my children anywhere else.
I think that the kids should be watched a little better out on the playground.
wish that you would hear about events in a more timely fashion,
Not a thing.
n/a
a lesser amount of students per teacher
Seperate the grade levels to their own class rooms.
no suggestions
More hands on exeperience and more attention to each student, but that will always be a difficult task for any educator
Don't have kids outside in cold or slightly rainy conditions.
Leave the first graders with the first graders and the second graders with the 2ndgraders instead of together
nothing at this time
none
Weekly reports or a note weekly on improvements in each childs progress. It would be nice to know ahead of time of any problems before it comes time for parent teacher conferences
i would like to see more staff outside during recess, my children have sometimes complained about other kids picking on them.
I do not agree with keeping the children on the playground until the temp falls below 10 degrees.
none
none as of now
More time tests. More reading for homework.
more information coming home from the teacher.
not sure that i have any!! :0)
none
make play grounds safer, no needles or syringes, what happens next time if its a gun?
The school could help me with teaching techniques to help my child at home
I would like to see grades on a report card. Also, I have called the school many times and there is no answer during school hours. I realize that the secretary is very busy, but it happens often.
none
I think there needs to be more monitors on the playground and I feel the nurse's assistant needs better training
I have an immediate concern about the traffic situation in the mornings. The lack of respect some parents have for the situation is posing a danger to students who are often dumped from cars and cross the street at areas other than the crosswalk. It alos hampers the movement of traffic on Capitol St. The administration needs to become aware of this problem and inform parents. I do feel reasonably confident that my child is safe from people who might intrude upon the school setting. I am much more impressed with teaching staff here than with the administration. I often see teachers who appear to be fatigued or sleepless. It makes me wonder if they are carrying a greater work-load than is prudent?
None
I feel that the teachers are really not equipted to handle any all types of children. When they have difficulty with being in school or being with others they are automatically thought to be difficult children and that they need medication to make then handle it better. They should learn how to handle those types of children and not make them feel out of place.
more supervision on the playground---this seems to be where alot confrontations happen & there never seems to be an adult around
I think there needs to be some advanced classes
better child to child discipline.
none
additional parking
Hold teachers accountable as you would somebody in the private sector, i.e. don't let the teachers unions run the school.
Longer school hours to coinside with parents work schedules. More families have both parents working now.
less students per class room or more teachers
None
Volunteers for lunch room monitoring. Introduction to letter grading system in 3rd grade. Halloween parties should EXCLUDE scary, gory & spooky. Maybe adapt a Harvest type theme or encourage them to dress to a predetermined theme.
the school is fine just as it is
Need more and better playground equipment
I really can't think of any, I have no complaints about this school at all.
Figure out why 50% of the students are requiring resource learning
Find a better food service. Teach a foreign language and American sign language in grades K-12. Teach children to read music in grades 2-8 or longer.
I would like to see more of a gradual transition into grading and homework, which they will be exposed to in 4th grade.
None. I'm very pleased with Jefferson School and the education my son is receiving here. (I am distressed, however, at remarks I've heard from parents whose children attend other schools in this district. They are glad their children don't attend Jefferson because 'all the poor kids go there.' Sounds like we need a 'We Love Jefferson' campaign!)
My only 'complaint' would be to change the Christmas Program to evening, rather than daytime. It's very difficult for many working parents to get the time off of work, yet we all want to support and encourage our children by being here for that. It's an important time and memory to miss.
None at this time.
None that I know of off hand I feel they are doing an excellent job
There needs to be more supervision when the kids are inside after lunch
my daughter feels intimidated by some boys and pressured this is in 1st grade how bad will it be by the time she is 2-3 years from now...
