| C.
B. Smith School was named after Carleton Blose Smith,
a well-known citizen of Pekin, Illinois, who served as
the District 108 superintendent from 1923 to 1950.
Originally,
the building was an addition to Edison Jr. High School
and consisted of only four classrooms. While there
is
no record of C. B. Smith School's first dedication, past
principals have placed the date in the early 1960's.
By
then, additions had been added to the original structure.
Currently the building has 24 classrooms, a gymnasium/lunchroom,
and, a learning center. C. B. Smith and Edison Jr. High
School buildings are connected, and special activities
between students from both schools take place on a daily
basis.
In
1989, C. B. Smith changed from a kindergarten through
sixth grade elementary school to a pre-K through third
grade primary building. With one CBI classroom, three
each of kindergarten, first, second, and third grade
classrooms, our school has grown in enrollment to its
current 350 students. Our full and part-time staff consists
of 40 teachers, assistants and specialists.
