School Improvement
The staff at Sunset Hills School has targeted the area of reading for improvement. This year, the teachers are working on standardizing their language arts (reading and writing) curriculum. Teachers have begun the process by mapping out the content they need to teach so that children will be able to master grade level objectives by the end of the year. Along with that, teachers are generating calendars that show when the content is covered throughout each month. While the teachers are busy with designing and documenting their grade level curriculum, they are continuously monitoring student achievement. Teachers are making sure their curricular decisions relating to content taught and the timing of the instruction is producing successful results. Many resources…both human and others that support instruction…are used to enhance student learning. The Sunset Hills staff believes that literacy is the foundation of a primary school building.
