How do we need to behave? What are the attitudes,
behaviors and commitment that we all must do well together to achieve the
vision. Values must be shared and a part of how we live.

Entry: Staff members have not yet identified the attitudes,
behaviors, or commitments they are prepared to demonstrate in order to
advance the mission of learning for all and the vision of what the school
might become. |
|
|
Beginning: Staff members have identified the attitudes,
behaviors and commitments that should be demonstrated to improve
student learning and advance the vision of the school. However, the
value statements have not yet impacted instruction or the day to day operations
of the school. |
|
|
Developing: Staff members have made a conscious effort to
promote the core values by which their school will function. There
is evidence, individually and collectively, that these values are impacting
the professional practices of people throughout the school. |
|
|
Sustaining: The values of the school are evident to new staff
and to those outside of the school. These shared values are embedded in
the school culture, and they influence policies, procedures, and daily
practices of the school as well as the day to day decisions of individual
staff members. Shared values survive despite changes in leadership
or staff. |
Key Questions for Reflection
-
How must we behave in order to make our shared vision a reality?
-
What attitudes, behaviors and commitments must be demonstrated in order
to move the school closer to the vision?
-
Do the value statements focus on what stakeholders will do rather
than what others must do?
-
Have all groups- administration, certified/ support staff, students and
parents- developed value statements linked to the vision?
-
Is there individual, team, small group and whole group commitment to the
shared values?
-
Are the shared values embedded in the school culture? Can one “see” the
values in daily operations? Are the shared values evident in day to day
decisions?
-
Are the shared values viewed as guiding principles and/or collective commitments?
Is there a focus on behavior, not beliefs? Is there a difference
between a belief and a value?
