PDSA Planning

*We brainstormed the different effects of the phonemic awareness test and found that our testing results keep varying widely with each test administrator.

*We then found causes for this effect under materials, methods, students, and teachers.

*We decided to begin changing the way the test was administered so that there was more consistency and less confusion for the children. It was then decided that Carol Mayberry would administer the test each cycle and change the order of level one on the test to avoid confusion for the children when we ask them to listen for words that are the same and different and then which words rhyme.

*We thought about changing the test all together but we felt like we have used this test for this long and we would like to see it through by continuing to use it for the rest of the year.

*When giving the test Carol will also give it in shorter lengths of time. We feel that the test is too long and that the kids loose focus when they have to sit down and take the whole test. Through this change we hope to avoid student burn out and see better test results.

Facts Check Workshop

  • We started out by sharing what we are doing in the classroom so far with the facts check.
  • Rita has made up questions already for the facts and to help insure that when she gives the test the answers are not all true or all false she made all the odd numbers false.
  • Jenny and Mary Ellen have begun introducing the facts in their classroom but have not yet started assessing the children.
  • For the rest of the time we made up our facts check graphs for the classrooms so that we could start assessing the children on the facts and record the results.
