SILT MEETING MINUTES MAY 9, 2001

1. Staff SILT Membership for next year:
Rita Larson, Kim Duda, Joanne Heilman, Karen Hurst (DILT), Rita Durr, Kelly Warner, Dawn Finneran, Jan White, Cindy Worner
We need a Special Education representative. Kelly Warner will be facilitator and Rita Larson will be secretary.

2. SILT Staff Evaluation discussion:
We discussed the rating system for these questions and decided that there were too many choices. We will revise the evaluation tool with the ratings of "agree" or "disagree". If it is disagree, responder will be asked to explain response.
REMINDER TO STAFF AND PTA: ANYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND ANY SILT MEETING ANYTIME.

3. Grade Level programs:
Before this year, Nan Cooper, our music teacher, was in charge of the third grade program-the only grade that performed for the public. This year each grade level
was responsible for its own student program. All were very well attended. Second and third grades used the Edison gym; Edison School graciously set up chairs, the stage and sound system for us. Kindergarten teachers would like Nan involved in their program next year. Kindergarten and first grade could do their programs on the same night at different times-possibly at Christmas if we can get the Edison gym. These grades need to check with colleagues and have someone report to Cindy. Someone from these grade levels needs to check with Edison for any possible evening in December.

4. Budget Review:
Budgeted money remaining at the year's end will roll over into Smith's cash fund.
Funds for science materials ordered come from the whole school textbook allocation (before it is divided into grade level amounts). Weekly Reader expenses could be taken out of grade level figures although in the past, this expense was also taken off of the top before grade level distributions.
SILT established a line item figure of $150.00 for the Resource teacher, as this position receives no funds from the district.
NOTE: REMEMBER, REALLOCATED TEXTBOOD FUNDS MUST BE SPENT BY DECEMBER OF EACH CURRENT YEAR (example: spent by December 2001, for fiscal year 2001-2002).

5. Literacy Team Status:
This team and various classroom teachers met last Thursday and will finish up this Thursday on the Literacy Team plan for the Title One assistants next year. The plan will be distributed to the staff and discussed at the staff meeting next week. This plan will be submitted to the Superintendent by May 25.

6. Other:
a. There are nine model 25 IBM computers from the Writing to Read lab. We will check to see if any teacher would like to have some of these computers in the classroom. Gloria's piano will be moved to the extra classroom (Staci Schlappi's) next year for any class to use.

b. There is to be no excess furniture put in the hallways next fall. Cindy had questioned if anyone had surplus furniture to be removed as she must contact other school and put in orders. IF ANYONE HAS ANY FURNITURE OR EQUIPMENT TO DISPOSE, PLEASE CONTACT CINDY IMMEDIATELY.

c. The K-3 grades will NOT be getting a new math series this coming year. We can get more materials if we wait until the next year with more funds available.

Many, many thanks to Tonya Calvert for serving as our facilitator and to Mary Ellen Bevenour for substituting as facilitator this year! It had been a pleasure to serve as SILT's secretary this year! Everyone should have this joy! Gloria J
