Members discussed facility and capital items needing
to be maintained, repaired or replaced included on our 2001-2002
list. It was decided that the need to add on to the gym to create
an all-purpose room should be deleted, since the writing-to-read
room was now available, as well as some empty classrooms. Added
to the list was the need to replace the front sidewalks in next
2-3 years.
Cindy announced that parent, Diana Barton, has volunteered to make
weekly banners that could be displayed in the foyer. These banners
would have
"I Care" type words given to her by teachers. Since many staff members
showed interest in the banners, Cindy said that we will begin displaying
them on October 21st. Each grade level needs to e-mail
Cindy by October 16th the words that they would like
to see displayed.
As part of a DILT project, Cindy is doing a time study. She would
like for SILT members to discuss with their constituents ways that
we can maximize our time and "make more time" each day or week.
Cindy said that the district is looking at other kinds of copy
machines to replace the ones in buildings now.
Cindy will look for a person to hire who can make copies for staff
once a week (after school). Dawn and Becky will make a copy request
form for teachers to use, and they will meet with the copy person
once she is hired to discuss parameters.
All teachers should put a class list by their fire escape route
charts near their classroom doors. This would help substitutes in
case of a fire alarm.
A discussion was held about intercom announcements. Members would
like to see a little longer delay between the time the intercom
comes on and the message begins to allow children to quiet down
before messages are given. They also suggested that the name of
the person named in an all-call be given at the beginning and again
at the end of the all-call.
Gail mentioned that she put in a work order for the staff toilet
in the west hallway closet to be fixed and the new molding be glued
in place where the old was torn out. Nothing has been done yet.
Jan reminded SILT that our Japanese teacher would be arriving next
Tuesday. She would like for more teachers to sign up to have him
visit their classrooms.
Kelly asked if Vickie Reeser could be a bus substitute and Cindy
said yes, so Vickie can be added to the list of bus subs.
Becky will check into the price of a die-cut machine. Members discussed
that the machine at Washington is very old and does not work well.
Some schools have purchased their own machines, so perhaps Smith
can do that as well.
