SILT Minutes
November 13, 2002

Craig Stickling discussed the district 108 counseling program and provided information on the community network of available services. Gail Wormer suggested that Craig put a brief note or tip in the Smith monthly newsletter to become more visible to families. Jan White suggested a mailbox where students could put private messages to Craig. Craig welcomed the suggestions and asked that staff continue to provide future suggestions, as well as making him aware of any student needs.

Kelly Warner serves on the district writing committee. She announced that the committee has designed a on-line writing survey that will be sent soon to all teachers involved in student writing instruction. Kelly talked about the district writing scores (C. B. Smith had the second highest scores for primary schools). A discussion followed about test writing and state expectations as opposed to "good" writing.

Cindy Worner shared SIP evaluations from the October 11th early release day. She asked for suggestions for an evaluation form for the parent conferences coming up next week.

Members discussed next year's calendar. Teachers want Veterans' Day and Martin Luther King Day off (right now we are scheduled to be in school on both dates).

Following a discussion about substitutes for Title and Connections, teachers decided that they could manage without a Connections sub, but not without a Title sub. The possibility of using student teachers, Mary Ann W. and Andi C. was suggested.

Cindy serves on a district committee studying time management and ways to create "more" time in the workday. They designed an on-line survey that all SILT members (including parents) took at the end of the meeting.
