Book It - All classes are going to participate in Book It. Gloria is in charge of this program, so questions should be directed to her.

Walking Club - Walking Club will be held for students on Tuesdays and Thursdays during all recesses. No students will be allowed on the playground equipment during Walking Club. The program will begin on September 16th. If the previous punch cards cannot be found, new cards will be made.

PTA Open House - the date chosen is October 16 instead of the suggested November date. Open house will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and the times for serving dinner will be from 5:00-7:00p.m.. Becky Bellrose will contact Scholatic Bookfairs immediately to see if the bookfair can be changed to the October date. Diana Barton requested this earlier date because parents had contacted her about visiting the school to see what their children are doing a littler sooner in the year. A discussion was held about what happens in the classroom during open house. Jan said that her classroom would have student led activities for families as well as displays of student work. Other members agreed that the evening would not be a conference time.

PTA Wish List - This year, instead of giving each teacher money, a wish list will be posted in the PTA room. Teachers can post needed items for their classrooms and when money becomes available through fund raisers or parent gifts, PTA will try to purchase the items. SILT members discussed various things that might be needed.

Reallocated Textbook Dollars - This money amounts to $759 per 1st-3rd grade teacher and must be spent on instructional materials. The money needs to be spent by Christmas so that this year's students can benefit from the purchases. Linda Van Dyke suggested that teachers talk to Craig Wiegardt, who is on the science committee, about what materials will be needed with the new science guidelines. Jan suggested that as a group, staff should review social studies and science guidelines before spending the reallocated textbook money. Linda suggested that teachers need new maps.

Meeting Date Change - The SILT meeting scheduled for March 10 will be changed to Thursday, March 11, 2004.

Miscellaneous - Diana Barton said that PTA would have their garage sale on October 4th. Items to be sold (books, clothes, etc.) should be put in room 19 (PTA room). For items too big to bring in, contact Amy Thomas or Diana to have someone pick it up.

Gail Wormer said that too many parents are stopping outside the school and waiting for their children to get into their cars. This is a safety hazzard, since children are dodging in and out of cars during a very busy traffic time. She also asked if teachers should wait until all children were gone before going back into the building. A. J. suggested that after-school safety be discussed at the staff meeting next week.

Diana asked about party dates this year. Halloween parties will be on October 31st, Christmas parties will be held on the Thursday before Christmas break, and Valentine parties will be during the morning on February 13th (early dismissal day). SILT members agreed that we would ask for $1 per child for each party ($3 total)..
