SILT COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES MARCH 7, 2001
1.Turn-Off T.V.Week—April 23-27: The coupon sheets have been created. Thanks to Dawn Hostetler and Dawn Finneran. Participating businesses include: Roxy’s Bowling Lanes, AMF Sunset Lanes, YWCA, Planet X Skate, Monical’s Pizza, Papa John’s Pizza, Pekin Park District, Pekin Public Library, and Peoria Chiefs Baseball.
2.Marianne Benson explained STAT surveys for STAT members and teachers along with an overview of the STAT process. The updated referral form includes one concern instead of three as before along with listing one strength of the child. Data collection is important.
3.Discussion was held about the possibility of STAT membership being on a rotation system similar to the three-year SILT cycle. This type of staggered membership rotation could also be for other committees such as School Improvement, DILT, and Technology. The number of years on a committee and the grade level rotations (who serves what committee) would need to be determined. Each team must decide who will stay, go off and come onto the committee. SILT members need to talk to their colleagues about this idea. In April, SILT will edit this concept with grade level input; in May it will be revised and adopted. Note: This plan would be optional to staff members because such service is not in our contract. Also, the issue of availability to serve on committees to meet recertifi- cation requirements must be considered.
4.Any request for furniture for next year needs to be submitted to the office on Furniture Needs Form by April 6, 2001.
5.District Software Buy: Turn in grade level software orders and completed rubrics to and purchase order forms to Becky Bellrose by Friday, March 16 (amended). We need to check for any overlapping, how much each grade level intends for spend, and problems of knowing if specific CDs will work on our computers before we buy them.
6. The following suggestions were made to help substitute teachers in classrooms: a. Teachers need to leave a note in sub plans or tell the substitute what children will be leaving with Edison Connection students, reading or speech teachers, etc. b. Teachers should attach a class list near the classroom emergency exit poster so the substitute teacher can check for students during a drill. Setting up a buddy system would also help; one student could report where his/her buddy is: Edison, reading, or elsewhere.
