School Goal (Specifically, what will you accomplish?) 2001-2002

Improve students' writing performance

District Goal (The school goal aligns with what district goals?)

Goal One (2001-2002)

We will increase student performance through the school improvement process.

Data-Driven Rationale (What data lead you to set this goal?)

Students’ 1999, 2000, 2001 ISAT and school local assessment scores have been reviewed by our staff. These scores continue to indicate writing as an area to target for improvement. Classroom Data, Formative and Summative Assessment Data, and ISAT results will be gathered and analyzed this year to assess progress made on broad targets outlined in this plan. Our school is facilitating the Plan-Do-Study-Act Improvement process as a means to establish a baseline for understanding specific instructional needs related to improving student writing performance. This data will be used to inform our planning and staff development as we narrow the focus of our improvement efforts to specific areas of intervention related to writing instruction.

Leadership (Who will be responsible to lead out and facilitate the plan?)

The S.I.L.T., Principal, Quality Improvement Team, and Literacy Leaders will facilitate this goal.

Evaluation Strategy (How will the results be measured?)

Examine summative local assessment data, and 2001 – 02 ISAT data to measure progress toward this goal. The local assessment data will show evidence that 80% of all students are mastering writing objectives. The ISAT data will show evidence that fewer students are in the "academic warning" and are in the "does not meet" categories. The ISAT results should also show a higher percentage of students are in the "exceeds" designation.
