| Anecdotal information is gathered from parents in a variety of ways. Teachers begin the school year with a start of the year orientation conference before students begin attending classes. At this time, A great deal of of information is shared. This is the first and most important step in creating the expectation for school - home communication. Formal parent conferences are held in November and March. Also, it is commonplace for teachers to communicate by phone or in writing with parents. All of these examples of communication provide teachers with a great deal of anecdotal information. Any faculty member can be a tool for gathering anecdotal information from parents. The Principal, Learning Consultant, School Secretary, and Health Clerk have a great deal of contact with a wide array of parents. These and other faculty members often establish a close relationship for a variety of reasons. |

| The school has implemented a process to systematically gather information and feedback from students, parents, and external partners through surveys. Parents are surveyed when they attend conferences three times during the school year. The orientation, fall, and spring surveys provide a great deal of meaningful feedback. This year a satisfaction survey was given to three classes of students in first through third grades. This group serves as our focus group for further development of a survey instrument and to offer some initial insights into student satisfaction. Other survey instruments are used for specific purposes as the need arises. We view parents as the most important group of external partners. Currently, we involve parents through the executive PTA, SILT and various actions teams such as the Special Events Committee. |

| Information from parent surveys is used in the planning process. Parents' input is one good measure among many regarding our programs effectiveness. Once the parent survey information is aggregated the SIP Team analyzes it and report the results to the staff and uses it when considering big picture planning. Also, the results are posted in the school newsletter and now to the school Quality Portfolio.
