PTA Meeting April 5, 2004

Treasurer’s report-We bought Accelerated Reader books- they are in and Mrs. Melloy is getting them ready for use. The sign was paid for and looks great!

Cindy Worner (No Child Left Behind Coordinator) visited the meeting to tell us about the parent involvement plan for the 2004/2005 school year in District 108. The plan is part of the district effort to meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind. In place of the part time Parent Coordinators in each school there will be 2 Parent Coordinators in the district that will work full time to connect parents with educators and outside agencies. Direct any questions to Ms. Worner.

Family Reading Night- It was awesome! There were 10 times more people than last year in attendance and we have heard that many students and their families enjoyed the activities. Thank you to the committee members who made it happen. Thank you also to the staff members who assisted with decorating the halls and getting the students excited about being there!

Read Around the World -Next year at Starke students will continue their journey of reading around the world. The journey will begin in Greece then move to Europe where the will enjoy an opportunity to look at how children around the world celebrate the holiday season. Asia will be the next destination and then Australia. The journey next year will end in Hawaii – which means that next year’s Fun Day will be Hawaiian! Sounds fantastic!

Teacher Appreciation Week- May 3rd through May 7th. Volunteers will bring in treats for the teachers each day that week. Friday the PTA sponsors a staff luncheon. Karen will make arrangements for the catering. Mrs. Rigdon is painting the teacher appreciation gifts for this year. They will be up and adding a nice look to the halls soon.

Fun Day - Date to be announced @ next meeting.

Fundraiser- The kickoff for next year’s fundraiser will be Sept. 10th.

Campbell’s Labels – We have collected 12,685 points to spend in the Campbell’s catalog. Mr. Ealey will let us know what type of outdoor equipment is needed.

Next meeting - May 10th will be the final meeting for this year. Notices will be sent out inquiring as to who would like to volunteer to run for the PTA board for next year.

Respectfully submitted by Shelly Bastean.
