District 108 provides the
following innovative, supplemental literacy services
to help each child realize their learning potential.
Early
Intervention Services (Grade K-1)
Reading
Recovery is a short-term, individual, early intervention
program designed to be one component of a total literacy
aaproach. Peading Recovery serves first grade students.
Accelerated learning occurs during Reading Recovery
tutoring and Reading Recovery Students begin to benefit
from first grade classrooms literacy instruction
The
Kindergarten and First Grade Initiative is baded on
the assumption that extra attention during the first
years of school [rovides a productive basis fro reading
and writing. Additional staff, specifically trained
in teaching leteracy, assist students in kindergarten
and first grade classrooms. Literacy assistance may
occur individually, in small groups or during whole
group instruction. Program services are available based
upon on the needs of students and resources.
Late Elementary and Intermediate
Intervention Services (Grades 2-8)
The Literacy Support Services provide supplemental reading,
writing and math instruction. These literacy support
services are designed to meet the specific needs of
individual students through a variety of literacy intervention
strategies. This instruction, which is in addition to
the regular classroom reading, writing, and math instruction,
helps students accelerate their classeoom learning performance.
Extended Day Services (Grade
4-6)
Extended Day literacy services provide additional reading,
writing, and math learning opportunities outside the
regular school day for individual students. Extended
Day is available through student. parent, or teacher
request for any student at the intermediate level.
Summer School Services (Grade
1-8)
The Pekin District 108 Summer School Provides targeted
assistance to students who are most at risk of being
retained or who score below the expected level of achievement
on either or both (ISAT) and local district (SAI) assessments.
Summer school students are selected adter final local
district assessment has been administered during the
first two weeks of May.
Family Literacy Services (Grades
K-8)
Fmaily Literacy Services have been established in each
District 108 school to support family literacy programs
and resources throughout the school and broader learning
community. Family Coordinators are available in each
building for the purpose of improving communication,
developing family literacy resources, and creating the
opportunity to share ideas that foster family involvement.
