Q. What is your
network operating system?
A. Instructional
software is run through Novell Netware 5.1, however, other operating systems
are used for various other tasks.For
example, most student data is housed on IBM's AS/400 using CIMS. Instructional
testing data is housed with Windows NT, running Abacus XP. Our webservers
and email servers run on Linux boxes.
Q. Do you have
a wide area network?
A.
Yes, the majority
of our district's technology is centrally located. From our network operations
center, there is single mode fiber running out to all school campuses.
The fiber was installed and was to the district for free by the local
cable company.
Q. Who were the
key players in deciding to go with an wide area network ?
A. Administration
and District Technicians
, along with help from
IBM consultants and our local cable company.
Q. Are you doing
any kind of voice and audio over the network?
A. Currently
we are beta-testing video distribution and video conferencing. However,
it is not fully integrated into the classroom at this time.
Q. How long have
you been up and running with the wide area network?
A. Since
May of 1996
Q. How many different
networking protocals are operating over your network? (ethernet, fast
ethernet, token ring, 10BT)
A. At this
time, mostly 100Mb Ethernet and some 25Mb ATM.
Q. Are you running
TCP/IP?
A. Yes
Q. How did you
pay for this network?
A. Our network
paid for by a community partnership entitled Global Connections 2000.
