The staff at Washington Intermediate has made a strong effort to integrate technology within our classrooms and curriculum programs. By providing technological opportunities to the students at Washington, we are preparing them with vital skills necessary to help ensure their future successes.

To demonstrate what Washington Intermediate has accomplished, the following is a brief summary of our recent accomplishments and efforts to utilize technology as a teaching tool:

  • "Where in the World am I...and Where in the World are we Going?" is a recent grant that was funded by the Illinois State Board of Education. This $25,000 grant was written by a team of Washington teachers in an effort to break down the barriers of a traditional classroom by gaining Internet access and studying issues of other cultures. The grant was written by Madeleine Decker, Diane Schueler, Brad Hutchison and Mary Lange.
  • During the 1996-1997 school year Washington Intermediate will have six teachers involved in two pilot programs: "School Vista" and "Video Distribution." Those teachers are Dawn Ackerman, Brenda Wieburg, Carol Jones, Camille McCarty, Linda Sarff, and Traci Peters. Using laptop computers, these individuals will explore the new technologies and share their knowledge with other staff members. Both programs are designed to increase efficiency and teaching effectiveness. Within five years, all District #108 teachers will have these same capabilities.
  • Title I funds were used to purchase four multimedia Macintosh computers for Washington. There are now similar stations located in classrooms throughout the building.
  • Global Connections 2000 continued this summer with the complete wiring of Washington to gain Internet access. Each student and teacher is being issued a driver's license necessary for Internet access after training in the use of this technology.
