As The Windows Turn    
( You take the high road...I'll take the SHORTCUT!)

You can customize your desktop and launch your frequently used programs using a "shortcut icon". This saves the time of wading through those pop-up menus..Adouble click and you're there! You can make shortcuts for folders or files. All shortcut icons have a little arrow in the left hand corner to indicate that it's a shortcut copy.

Let's assume that we want to make a shortcut for the "Read Me" file.

  • Double Click on MY COMPUTER.
  • Double Click on [C:] Drive icon.
  • Double Click on the folder that you want.
  • Do a RIGHT click on the program file.
  • Do a LEFT click on "Create Shortcut".
  • Click, hold and drag the newly created shortcut to the desktop.

Deleting...Via The Recycle Bin

Just like our drawers and closets, we sometimes have to get rid of things.

To delete a shortcut icon or file...In other words, send it to the Recycle Bin

(Shortcut icons MAY be deleted because they're copies)

*Click, hold and drag the icon or file to the Recycle Bin

(The bin becomes full by having white paper overflowing)

*Double click on the Recycle Bin to open it up. Notice theinfo about the item that you are about to delete.

*Choose File and "Empty trash bin"

*"Are you sure you want to delete...?"

*Answer yes and the bin no longer has paper sticking out of it.

OR...

*Do a RIGHT click on the shortcut icon or file and choose delete

*"Are you sure you want to send...?" Choose YES

(It automatically goes to the Recycle Bin - Note the "full" bin)

*Do a RIGHTclick on the Recycle Bin and choose "Empty trash bin"

Hooking A ThinkPad Laptop to the Suspended Classroom TV Monitor

1. Unattach the cable from the monitor port on the back of your desktop cpu (the one that goes to the TVmonitor). Attach this to the monitor port on the back of your laptop (there's only one port that it will fit into).

2. Turn on your laptop. Right click on the Windows desktop. Click the Properties section to change the display settings. You should move the slider on the left side of the screen to the far left (less). The numbers should change from 800x600 to 640x480. Click Apply, then OK, then Yes. Exit.

3. Turn on your TV monitor, using the remote to put it into VGA mode.

4. Click the ThinkPad icon on the desktop. Go to Features. Find the monitor buttons on the upper left of the screen. Click the third button in the first group (for 2 displays). Click the second button in the second group (for presentation mode). Exit.

5. On the ThinkPad keyboard hit Fn/F7, simultaneously, to toggle from ThinkPad display to Monitor display (it takes a couple of seconds). You will get two dislay modesfor the laptop, one is full-screen and the other is less.

6. Before shutting down, set your laptop display back to the 800x600 mode as directed in step 1. If you forget and get a smaller than full-size display on your laptop when you start it up the next time, you can use the Fn/F7 keys to toggle to full-size display.

HOOKING UP YOUR EXTERNAL CD-ROM

Shawnee/Cherokee use the Maestro CD-Rom Drive

Illini/Crow use the Disctec RoadRunner CD-Rom Drive

  • Turn off the power to the computer first.
  • Put the CD-Rom parallel cable (25 pin) into the back of the computer. (You'll have to unhook your printer parallel cable from the computer first).
  • Place the other end of this cable into the back of the CD-Rom marked PARALLEL IN
  • Take the printer parallel cable that you unhooked and put it into the back of the CD-Rom drive marked PARALLEL OUT.
  • Plug in the power adaptor both into the CD-Rom and an outlet.
  • Turn on your computer and you're ready to go!


Saving Casio and Zapshot Pictures To a VCR

What cables and where do they go?

  • ANTENNA CABLE - This cable goes OUT TO TV from the VCR and into Antenna Cable on TV.
  • The RCA cable (cable with the yellow end) goes VIDEO OUT from the Casio Camera (or Zapshot) and VIDEO IN to the VCR.

You must use the VCR remote to do the following:

  • Choose MENU-Set Up
  • Choose Set
  • Arrow downto INPUT SELECT Choose Set
  • Change to LINE
  • Choose Set

Press Menu to escape out - You might have to press Menu twice.

If all of the above is done, you may now record as planned.


Hooking Up The Averkey Plus Video Converter To Your Thinkpad

This video converter has the following:

  • Averkey Plus gray box
  • S-Video cable (round with pins)
  • Video cable (single prong...You won't use this if you're using the S-Video cable)

VGA cable (15 pin)

  1. Attach one end of the VGA cable into the back of your ThinkPad.
  2. Hook the other end of the VGA cable into the Averkey Plus port marked "VGA CARD".
  3. Plug one end of the S-video cable into the Averykey Plus box and the other end into the S-Video jack in the back of the TV.
  4. Plug the power adaptor into the side of the Averykey Plus box and the other end into an outlet.
  5. Click on Menu on your TV and make sure that it is set to the source S-Video.

You are hooked up and you are now TV ready. Follow the following directions to make your ThinkPad ready.

To use the Averkey Plus Video Converter...


You must do the following:

Before getting ready to use, have a L.C. person change a setting in the ThinkPad features for you first. It will take 1 minute and this will be a one time change.

Next...
Click on Start, Settings, and Control Panel
Double -click on Display
Click on Settings
Choose Change Display Type
Model-Standard Display Adapter (VGA)
*Monitor Type
Change
Show all devices
Manufacturer-Standard Monitor Type
Model-Standard VGA 640X480 - Close
Apply
OK
Restart machine
You will use the FN and F7 keys to go back and forth between laptop and monitor.

Upon completion of using the Averkey Plus Converter, put your original settings back by doing all of the above.

*Original Adapter Type setting - ThinkPad(Cyber9320)PCI
*Original Monitor Type setting - Laptop Display Panel (800x600)
