KING TUTANKHAMUN – WAS IT MURDER?
By Steve Smith
When Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922, one of the mysteries of ancient times was solved. But, another was just uncovered. How did King Tut die? Was it murder?
Tutankhamun was born over 3,000 years ago in Egypt in the year 1347 BC. At the age of nine he was made ruler of the richest kingdom of that time. However, after just nine years as king he died. How? The answer to that is murder!
An autopsy performed on King Tut’s body in 1985, showed a fragment of bone in Tutankhamun’s lower head. The bone was in such a place that could not be damaged in an accident. There was also a blood clot in a vein in his head. A result of an assassination attempt – or just a fall? The clot was caused by the same blow that chipped his skull. It was murder!!
So who murdered the King of Egypt? Two main theories are 1. His adviser Ay killed him so that he could rule alone, or 2. His wife. After King Tut’s death, Ay became ruler – who wouldn’t want to be King of Egypt? Also, Ay and King Tutankhamun’s widowed wife, married just months after his death. Was there something going on before Tut’s death? To this the answer is no. What women would not want to be the Queen of Egypt?
This brings us back to Ay. Records that date back to a few years before King Tut’s death in 1339 show that King Tut was getting more and more interested in the running of Egypt. If he no longer needed an adviser, Ay was out of a job. So Ay killed him!
Ay wanted to rule alone so in 1339 BC he murdered Tutankhamun by striking him with a blunt object. Now Ay was King. To avoid suspicion Ay later covered his tracks by marrying King Tut’s wife. He also prosecuted another man and had him killed for murdering Tutankhmun.
Was it murder? Yes, it was. King Tutankhamun was murdered by his adviser Ay! Now, I ask you, "Was it murder?" By visiting the same sites I did, I’m sure you will find that yes it was murder!
