1) Properties Toolbar
To change the color of a table, column, or row you first need to make sure the properties toolbar is still up.

2) The select the table, row, or column wanted to change.

3) Select the background color
Then on the properties tool bar select the arrow in the lower right hand side of the tool bar that has Bg off to the side. Select the color.

4) Also a picture can be used
Also a picture can be used as a background. Select the table or the cell that you want the picture in. To put a picture for the background select the folder next to the Bg and find the picture for the background.
