1) Properties Toolbar
To change the color of a table, column, or row you first need to make sure the properties toolbar is still up. If it is missing, choose WINDOW --> PROPERTIES to bring it back.

2) Then highlight the table, row, or column want to change.

3) Select the background color
Select the background color (Bg) from the properties toolbar.

4) Using a background picture as an alternative
A picture can also be used as a background instead of a solid color. Select the table or the cell that you want to insert the picture. Then click on the small folder icon off to the right of the "Bg" blank. Select your image from the window that pops up.
