SILT (School Instructional Leadership Team)

SILT

· SILT is an organizational body which will administer site based, shared decision-making. SILT is a representative group of staff and parents which is responsible for planning and problem solving to improve the quality of education and working life at each school.

· Site based, shared decision-making is a joint planning and problem solving process.

· Each site will evaluate the effectiveness of site based, shared decision-making on a yearly basis. Such reflection and analysis would involve both the SILT and all staff.

· The Willow Instructional Leadership Team, is called WILT.

· WILT's group processes and decisions must fall within the district parameters, established by DILT, the District Instructional Leadership Team, and approved by the Board of Education and the EAP, the Education Association of Pekin.

· WILT has formal process parameters approved by the staff. A copy of these parameters is included in the staff handbook. (These process parameters are posted in Section 6 Process Management.)

SILT Decisions

· The SILT at each school is responsible for making decisions according to the parameters in the contract.

· District SILTs address and formalize the way in which they decide who makes what decisions about instructional program, assigning students to class lists and budget.

· Each SILT will monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Building Supervision Plans with problem solving responsibilities to make improvements.

· Each SILT will semi-annually review the use of flex-time in each building.

· In addition, SILT at Willow functions as an advisory group to the principal. At the principal's discretion, WILT may be consulted for input on decisions made by the principal.

SILT Meetings

· WILT meets the first Wednesday of each month at 3:20. Additional meetings are scheduled as needed.

· WILT meetings are open to all staff and parents.

· WILT meetings are facilitated by the facilitator and a co-facilitator. Each meeting
has a recorder and a timekeeper. WILT members serve as co-facilitator and
timekeeper on a rotational basis.

· A closure statement will be published by the WILT recorder as soon as possible. All staff members will receive the closure statement.

SILT Agenda

· Developing the agenda is a collaborative process.

· An agenda planning meeting is held during the week before the WILT meeting, generally the Friday before. The date is published on the WILT closure statement and on the monthly calendars published with the orange memos.

· The agenda is planned by the facilitator, the co-facilitator, the recorder, the timekeeper, and the principal.

· All Staff members and parents have input into the agenda for WILT. Agenda items may be given to any WILT member.

· The agenda planning meeting is published on the WILT closure statements and on the monthly calendars published with the orange memos.

· The WILT agenda is distributed to all staff members before the meeting.
