Hello!  My name is Traci Guenther and I teach third grade at Jefferson Elementary School in Pekin, IL.  I'm proud to say that this is my 24th year teaching for Pekin 108!  I did not start out in Education.  My original degree is in Biology from Monmouth College.  That is where I met my husband and how I came to be a resident of Pekin, IL.  I have always enjoyed working with kids. After I saw how much fun my husband was having being a teacher, I decided to go back to school to receive a second degree, this time in Elementary Education from Illinois State University.  My first two years teaching were in Kindergarten at Willow and Jefferson Schools.  When an opening for a science position came available at Edison Junior High, my love for science took me from Kindergarten to 8th grade!  At that time I persued a Masters degree in Teaching and Leadership from Saint Xavier University.  I spent 11 years teaching at Edison, 7th and 8th grade math and science.  I am currently at Jefferson for my 11th year in third grade.  I have loved teaching at every age level and for such a fantastic school district.  It seems I can't go anywhere anymore without running into a former student.  It is so exciting to see former Pekin 108 students contributing to the community.  My husband Gregg and I have been married for 27 years.  Both of us are teachers and we enjoy traveling over our summer breaks.  We have two children, Brendan and Graci.  Brendan is a junior at Monmouth College, which is pretty exciting since that's where his mom and dad met.  He's playing soccer and tennis like his dad and studying Biology and Chemistry like his mom.  Graci is a freshman at PCHS.  She loves to play softball and volleyball and keeps us busy going to see all of her games and activities.  We have two puppies; a miniature wire-haired dachshund named Bernadette... we call her Bernie, and a miniature smooth-haired dachshund named Howard... we call him Howie.  We've always been a single-dog family, and we've never had tiny dogs, so this is new for us.  I am very excited to be teaching third grade at Jefferson Primary School this year.  Once a HAWK, always a HAWK!
