This two-part training will focus: 1) understanding your working style 2) working with others who have different working styles and 3) working through difficult conversations and conflict productively.

Curiosity Across the Curriculum: Foundations of Research Workshop - taught by Dr. Carolyn Hunt (ISU)
Zora Neal Hurston wrote, “Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose.” The joy of curiosity and discovery is a primary reason that many of us became teachers, yet it can be difficult to hang on to that joy amongst the many demands of teaching.
Research workshop is a structure for reclaiming curiosity and infusing it across the curriculum in ways that draw on children’s natural sense of wonder. In Inquiry Illuminated, Anne Goudie, Stephanie Harvey, and Brad Buhrow outline curiosity as the first cornerstone of inquiry upon which a research workshop is built.
In this professional development session, we will explore the power of curiosity in literacy, science, and social studies. What is curiosity? How does it support learning? How can teachers allow their students’ curiosity to flourish? How can standards and instructional strategies be used in the service of curiosity? We will conduct a mini-inquiry to discover the power of curiosity and engage with practical, immediately applicable strategies for placing the cornerstone of curiosity in our classrooms.
This class will meet on Tuesday, February 25th and Tuesday, March 24th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. Register now to reserve your spot.
