RE: Recognition Night Information
On Tuesday, May 28th at 6:00 p.m. we will be recognizing the accomplishments of the Edison 8th grade students at our Recognition Night Ceremony. Please note, our ceremony will be held in the Hawkins Gym at Pekin High School.
We feel it is our opportunity as a learning community to emphasize the importance of hard work and effort, and to send the message that school is important to everyone’s success. We are very proud of our students and think that together we can make this a memorable night for parents, relatives, and students of EJHS. In an attempt to create a dignified and respectful ceremony we are asking for your cooperation in the following areas:
- Please be respectful of each other during the ceremony. Disruptive comments, gestures, and whistles are not welcome. Anyone behaving in a disruptive manner will be asked to leave the ceremony.
- It is not necessary for students to dress formally for the evening. Tuxedos or formal evening gowns should not be worn. Girls can wear a dress, a nice skirt or pants. We ask that the girls not wear clothing that is too short, tight fitting, or of such a nature as to be suggestive or revealing. For safety reasons, girls should refrain from wearing shoes with high heels. Boys can wear nice casual clothes such as nice jeans, khaki pants or dress pants with a nice shirt and a tie if desired.
- Banners, balloons, flowers, and / or signs will not be allowed in the ceremony. Please keep in mind that our students are in junior high school and not graduating from high school or college.
- Student should arrive no later than 5:45 PM and meet in the Custer-Stoudt Gym to line up. Parents please do not arrive earlier than 5:15 PM. The building will not be open prior to that time.
During our conversations with all of our 8th graders, we have stressed that attending and participating in this ceremony is a privilege. We have clearly explained our expectations for student behavior during the remaining days of school. Students who are unable to follow our expectations will forfeit their privilege to participate. We strongly urge all parents / guardians to speak with their student and help reinforce our expectations.
Thank you for your help in making this a positive event for the 2019 eighth grade class.
